The Best Countries to Visit as a Vegetarian:
Meatless Travel Bucket List
Vegetarian Friendly Country To Visit: India
India has a notable vegetarian population (around 40% of the population) due to religious and cultural beliefs. Which means that a ton of the food restaurants and entire restaurants are inherently vegetarian!! Seriously if you want a trip where you can experience the majority of major items in the cuisine and have no struggles finding vegetarian restaurants than a trip to India is perfect for you!
Vegetarian Friendly Country To Visit: Italy
Pasta and cheese… do I really need to say more?
I had the opportunity to spend two weeks exploring Italy last year and it was amazing for so many reasons of course. But as a vegetarian the food was a highlight! You can pretty much walk into any restaurant in Italy and be able to get a meatless pasta or pizza. Which is amazing! I will say finding vegetarian protein wasn’t quite as easy as it is in other places so make sure to load up on eggs in the morning!

Vegetarian Friendly Country To Visit: Thailand
This is sooo high on my personal foodie bucket list as a vegetarian. With tons of inherently vegetarian dishes and flavors that make every type of food shine it’s a must add to your list too!
Also, the fresh and exotic fruits are beyond a highlight for anyone visiting Thailand but for us vegetarians I believe this is even more exciting. Make sure to check out some local markets while you are there and say yes to trying new fruits and veggies. You won’t be disappointed!
Vegetarian Friendly Country To Visit: Turkey
I will be reporting back more on Turkey as a vegetarian after I visit this October! But we do know that Turkish cuisine has so many popular vegetarian dishes like Dolma (stuffed vine leaves!) and red lentil balls. And with so many veggies and legumes being used it is incredibly easy to find delicious foods that you can enjoy.
And of course the deserts (baklava!!), coffee, and snacks will keep you so full in addition to all your main meals.
Vegetarian Friendly Country To Visit: Mexico
Fun fact- 19% of the population in Mexico is vegetarian! Combined with it being a country who’s cuisine loves fresh veggies and beans its no surprise that Mexico made this list.
It was also the first country that I went to outside of the USA after I stopped eating meat and I was so pleasantly surprised! Knowing what I know now it’s not that crazy but at the time I was shook.
Anyway, Mexico is a great location to visit for vegetarians but of course do some research on the specific resort or town you are staying in to double check. Especially if you are staying at a resort that you will be primarily eating at 🙂

Vegetarian Friendly Country To Visit: Singapore
As a vegetarian, I find Singapore to be such an exciting destination! This stunning city-state is a melting pot of cultures, offering a diverse array of vegetarian dishes influenced by Chinese, Malay, Indian, and Western cuisines. A huge bonus also is the well-labeled dishes make it easy to navigate meals. Oh, and the city’s focus on health and sustainability means vegetarian and vegan eateries are booming, making Singapore an absolute must-visit for vegetarians!!
Vegetarian Friendly Country To Visit: Germany
Traveling through Germany as a vegetarian is increasingly easy and enjoyable, thanks to the country’s growing eco-conscious population and of course their health-oriented food culture.
Cities like Berlin and Munich are actually at the forefront of the vegetarian movement, with an impressive variety of vegetarian and vegan restaurants. Traditional dishes like Käsespätzle (cheese noodles) and various potato salads are naturally vegetarian and widely available. Seasonal produce markets also offer fresh fruits and vegetables that highlight the German commitment to freshness and quality!
Vegetarian Friendly Country To Visit: Australia
A healthy and eco conscious country with fresh food grown in their long growing season? Makes for an awesome vegetarian foodie trip. Especially if you stick to the major cities- you will find not only vegetarian options at majority of restaurants but also fully vegetarian and vegan options. Similarly to most US cities it is also a food melting pot country so you can experience a huge range of different types of vegetarian food.
Vegetarian Friendly Country To Visit: United States
Now let’s wrap this up with one that majority of my readers like myself comes from (but hello if you are not, I am so excited you’re here!) but has some of the most and least vegetarian friendly cities in the world in my opinion.
NYC for example is the ultimate foodie heaven with world class restaurants in every cuisine imaginable. So no surprised that also an eco conscious population would also have tons of INCREDIBLE vegetarian, Vegan, plant based etc. restaurants.
My other top vegetarian cities with the US are: Portland OR, San Diego CA, Minneapolis MN (trust me on this one!), Seattle WA, and last but certainly not least- Chicago IL!
