How To Stay Sane Planning a Last Minute Trip
Last minute trip guide:
Tip 1: Start with What You Know
Before you start spiraling down a rabbit hole of all the endless travel options, take a moment to consider any easy wins.
Is there a part of the city your trip is taking place in that you are familiar with? Book your hotel there. Is there certain cuisines that are always a hit with this group? Focus on those restaurant categories for the trip (or at least the beginning of the trip) to help narrow it down.
Tip 2: Use apps that help
Utilize travel apps and websites that thrive on last-minute bookings. Platforms like HotelTonight or LastMinute can be lifesavers, offering serious discounts on exclusively last minute accommodations. And don’t forget about Google Flights’ “explore” feature, which shows you the best airfares from your nearest airport to destinations worldwide. It’s a personal favorite tool of mine 🙂
Tip 3: Pack efficiently
When time is of the essence, you don’t want to be slowed way down by luggage. Stick to the essentials and embrace the minimalist way of packing. Keep a go-bag ready with travel necessities like a toothbrush, charger, and a change of clothes. Think of it as a travel capsule wardrobe but it’s not only chic but also incredibly efficient.
Plus, we love that skipping checked bags means a faster getaway from the airport, straight to your adventure!

Tip 4: Keep Your Documents Handy
Ensure your travel documents are in order and hopefully you do this before you really need it!
This means checking if your passport is up to date (some countries require it to be valid for at least six months after your travel dates) and if you need any visas. Apps like Mobile Passport can streamline your travel, and minimizing anything that can go wrong on a trip is ideal. But especially when the trip is being planned last minute!
Tip 5: Stay Connected
Download offline maps and translation apps (I just use google translate and have never had a problem!) to help navigate your destination with ease.
Staying connected also means keeping your loved ones informed about your travel itinerary with just a quick update or a shared location can keep any worried friends or family at ease back home. Plus, it ensures you have a backup should you need local advice or a quick rescue from let’s just say a misadventure.

Tip 6: Go with the Flow
The essence of a last-minute trip is spontaneity, so try to embrace the unexpected with open arms. Whether it’s a missed bus leading to a serendipitous local encounter or a surprise rainstorm that sends you to discover a quaint café (which happened to us in Naples Italy and led to the most wonderful evening!), these unexpected moments often turn into cherished memories. Approach each hiccup with curiosity rather than frustration because my friends, it’s all part of the adventure!
