The Top Travel Destinations For Foodies To Visit

Eating our way through a new location is my (and my husbands) favorite way to get to know an area. Food tells you so much about a community and culture, and is one of the best ways to understand and bond with those around you. Not to mention how fun it is to get to try new foods all around the world!

If that appeals to you then you probably will love foodie focused travel.

So you’re in luck- below I go into my top travel destinations for foodies to visit. Including WHY that location should be at the top of a foodies bucket list and what foods you can’t miss when you’re there.

Let’s get into it and hope I don’t get too hungry writing about these destinations for my friends on here-

The Top Travel Destinations For Foodies To Visit

Where to visit if you love food:

Foodie destination: Tokyo, Japan

Why: Tokyo is a paradise for foodies, with everything from Michelin starred sushi restaurants (tho don’t forget that Michelin restaurant reviewing was invented to encourage europeans to drive to more restaurants. It is NOT the ultimate mark of great food but it is quality and vetted restaurants!) to street-side ramen shops.

The city’s culinary precision and dedication to quality are unmatched, and the Tsukiji Outer Market is a must-visit for fresh seafood and traditional snacks. Immerse yourself in the amazing seafood and Japanese culture and enjoy the ultimate foodie vacation.

Foodie destination: Paris, France

Why: Paris is the ultimate destination for lovers of fine dining, buttery pastries, and artisan cheeses. Indulge in croissants at a charming café, savor decadent coq au vin, or picnic under the Eiffel Tower with a baguette and some brie.

My personal must try is sauces! The French are incredible at making flavorful but not heavy sauces- trust them when they say it’s better with a certain sauce!! And I am not just saying this because I love sauces and condiments. Besides the obvious pastries and cheese you gotta try the sauces.

Foodie destination: Bangkok, Thailand

Why: Bangkok is a street food heaven. From fragrant bowls of green curry to sizzling pad Thai cooked in front of you, the city offers a symphony of flavors. Don’t miss the iconic mango sticky rice for dessert.

Though I haven’t gotten here yet I asked friends who have and their recommendation was undoubtably that you have to try the Som Tum aka Green Papaya soup. I am hoping to make it to Thailand in 2026 and will update you all of course when I do!

Foodie destination: Barcelona, Spain

Why: Tapas, paella, and sangria.. oh my!

Barcelona’s food scene is as fun as its culture. Wander the markets like La Boqueria for fresh seafood, jamón ibérico, and churros dipped in rich hot chocolate is a must try my friends!

Foodie destination: Istanbul, Turkey

Why: A crossroads of cultures, Istanbul offers an enticing mix of Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, and Asian flavors all in one location also filled with incredible history. Try a traditional breakfast spread, juicy kebabs, and baklava, and wash it all down with Turkish coffee.

I am going to Turkey for the first time in October of this year and will update my personal must try then! But I have had Turkish coffee in Greek islands off the coast of turkey and it’s an experience you shouldn’t miss out on.

Foodie destination: Bologna, Italy

Why: Known as the food capital of Italy, Bologna is the birthplace of iconic dishes like tagliatelle al ragù (Bolognese sauce) and mortadella. Pair your pasta with a glass of local Lambrusco for the ultimate Italian feast.

My husband and I first visited Bologna back in 2022 and I have honestly been dreaming about the pasta sauces since then BUT he also swears you have to try their cured meats as well. I am a vegetarian but they did look delicious and flavorful so if you eat meat go ahead and try it!

Foodie destination: New Orleans, USA

Why: The Big Easy is famous for its Creole and Cajun cuisine, offering bold flavors like gumbo, jambalaya, and beignets. With its lively atmosphere and soulful dishes, New Orleans will satisfy your appetite and your spirit.

While there is so much amazing food I do say you have to try a beignet and if you can stomach it head to a seafood broil. The cajun spices just can’t be beat and they make EVERYTHING taste incredible with the seasonings.

Foodie destination: Oaxaca, Mexico

Why: Known as the culinary heart of Mexico, Oaxaca is famous for its mole sauces, tlayudas, and mezcal. Its vibrant markets are perfect for exploring traditional flavors and local ingredients.

You have to try the mole sauce. Im going to be honest with you all- I am not the biggest mole fan. I prefer the fresh habanero salsa you can find in most restaurants around Oaxaca but try at least a bite because I will say the fresh mole here is definitely the closest to liking it I have ever come!

We took a salsa making class in Oaxaca this year and if you can get a chance to do one I also highly recommend all my foodies try to find a class because it was not only delicious but informative too.

Foodie destination: Singapore

Why: Singapore’s hawker centers are legendary, offering Michelin-starred street food at wallet-friendly prices. Highlights include chicken rice, laksa, and chili crab. The city’s diverse culinary scene reflects its rich cultural blend.

No must haves from me yet but Singapore is at the top of my personal foodie bucket list so I wanted to share it with you all too!

Foodie destination: Cape Town, South Africa

Why: Cape Town offers a unique culinary blend of African, European, and Asian influences. Sample flavorful bobotie, Cape Malay curries, and fresh seafood, all while enjoying stunning views of Table Mountain.

Another destination at the top of my personal foodie bucket list!
