Tips for creating vision boards:
1. Get Clear on Your Goals
Before you start cutting out pictures of yachts and mansions (because let’s dream big), take a moment to figure out what you really want. What areas of your life need some sparkle? Maybe you’re ready for a career change, want to prioritize self-care, or are just trying to travel more.
Pro tip: write it all down first. Think of your vision board as a map to your dream life. If you don’t know the destination, how can you create the guide? Whether it’s love, finances, health, or adventure, knowing your goals makes the process focused and powerful.
2. Collect Your Supplies (and Your Vibes)
This is the fun part—shopping for your supplies. Grab a board (poster board, corkboard, or even a digital app if you’re more tech-savvy), some magazines, scissors, glue, and markers. You’ll also want some extras like stickers, washi tape, or glitter if you’re feeling fancy.
Or if you are going digital like me then get your laptop and Canva pulled up!
Your vision board should feel like you. Play some music, light a candle, and set the vibe before diving in. This is your creative time, so make it fun and reflective. And yes, pouring a glass of wine while you cut out your dreams is totally acceptable.
3. Find Visuals That Speak to You
Don’t just pick random pretty pictures. If you’re manifesting travel, find photos of the exact destinations you want to visit. Dreaming of financial freedom? Grab images of savings jars or checks with your name on them. The more specific, the better—this is your dream life, after all.
4. Organize by Themes
A chaotic board can still be cute, but if you’re a Type-A queen like me, consider grouping your vision board by themes. Divide it into sections for career, health, relationships, self-care, or whatever areas you’re focusing on.
This helps you see where your goals are most concentrated and keeps everything visually organized. Plus, it makes your vision board easier to read when you glance at it for daily inspo.
5. Add Affirmations and Quotes
A picture may be worth a thousand words, but some words are worth a thousand dreams. Adding affirmations and motivational quotes to your vision board can make it even more powerful.
Think about phrases like “I am worthy of success,” “I am capable of achieving my goals,” or simply “You’ve got this!” These reminders will help you stay focused and motivated when the going gets tough.
6. Place It Where You’ll See It Daily
What good is a vision board if it ends up stuffed in the back of your closet? Put your board somewhere you’ll see it every single day—whether it’s by your desk, your vanity, or as the background on your phone!
The more you see it, the more it becomes ingrained in your mind. Think of it as a gentle nudge from future-you saying, “Hey, don’t forget, we’re working on something amazing here.”
7. Keep It Updated
Your dreams and goals will evolve, and that’s a good thing! Treat your vision board like a living document—refresh it as you achieve milestones or as your priorities shift.
Revisiting your vision board is also a great way to reflect on how far you’ve come. Every time you replace a goal with a new one, you’re celebrating progress and keeping the momentum going.
